LMIA exempt applications: International Mobility Program (IMP)
The International Mobility Program (IMP) enables Canadian employers to hire temporary workers without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This program encompasses various streams that align with Canada’s broader economic and cultural interests. Positions exempt from LMIA requirements typically fall into one of two categories:
Broad Economic, Cultural, or Competitive Advantages for Canada: These positions contribute significantly to Canada’s economic growth, cultural diversity, or competitive edge.
Reciprocal Benefits: These positions offer reciprocal benefits for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, fostering mutually beneficial relationships.
About the Process:
Under the International Mobility Program:
Employers can hire temporary workers without an LMIA.
In most cases, employers need to submit an offer of employment through the employer portal.
Once the employer’s part is complete, the temporary foreign worker applies for a work permit.
Responsibilities Upon Arrival:
Upon the temporary foreign worker’s arrival, employers must adhere to certain conditions and responsibilities. Failure to meet these obligations could result in penalties. It’s crucial for employers to fulfill their duties to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain a positive working relationship with their employees.
Adhering to these guidelines ensures a smooth process for both employers and temporary foreign workers under the International Mobility Program.
