Alberta’s Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

Alberta’s Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) serves as a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), facilitating the transition to permanent residency for workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates desiring settlement in Alberta, Canada. Initiated in 2018, it aligns with Alberta’s endeavor to draw and retain talented individuals crucial for the province’s economic advancement.

Predominantly reliant on natural resources, notably its oil and gas reservoirs, Alberta faced economic adversities, including dwindling oil prices and reduced investments in preceding years. Consequently, the government actively pursued strategies to broaden the economic base and attract skilled professionals, with AAIP being a key component. By augmenting the influx of skilled labor, Alberta aims to catalyze innovation, foster emerging sectors, and elevate economic vitality.

This guide delineates the eligibility criteria and application procedures for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), elucidating the program’s perks for prospective participants.

Additionally, candidates must hold a favorable Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or possess one of the recognized LMIA-exempt work permits, such as those granted under the Francophone Mobility program, International Experience Canada, Free Trade Agreements, PGWP for Alberta Post-secondary institution graduates, and similar programs. Alberta Express Entry Stream: Aligned with the federal Express Entry system, this stream nominates candidates meeting eligibility criteria and possessing a valid job offer or work experience in Alberta. Candidates demonstrating strong ties to Alberta or supporting the government’s economic development and diversification objectives may be selected. Expedited processing may be available for candidates employed by or holding a job offer from an Alberta-based tech industry employer in an eligible tech occupation.

Note: Candidates cannot directly apply to the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Rural Renewal Stream: This initiative supports employers in rural Alberta by attracting and retaining newcomers, addressing labor shortages, and facilitating permanent settlement in rural communities. These communities must have a population of less than 100,000 and be situated outside the Calgary and Edmonton regions. The employment offer should be full-time, nonseasonal, and permanent, substantiated by an endorsement letter of support from the community or town council.
