Settlement Funds: Prove adequate financial capacity to support themselves and accompanying dependents upon arrival in Alberta. The requisite settlement funds vary according to the number of accompanying family members.

AAIP Worker Streams Categories:

Alberta Opportunity Stream: Tailored for foreign workers deemed capable of achieving economic stability in Alberta.

Job Offer: Applicants in this stream must secure a valid job offer from an Alberta employer and fulfill eligibility criteria. Additionally, candidates must hold a favorable Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or possess one of the recognized LMIA-exempt work permits, such as those granted under the Francophone Mobility program, International Experience Canada, Free Trade Agreements, PGWP for Alberta Post-secondary institution graduates, and similar programs. PGWP holders must align their occupation with their field of study in Alberta. Most occupations falling under NOC TEER Categories 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are eligible under AAIP. Language Requirements: Applicants in NOC TEER Categories 0 to 3 must demonstrate Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5, while those in NOC TEER Categories 4 and 5 must exhibit CLB 4 for each language skill.

Education: Completion of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards is mandatory. If education is attained in Alberta, credentials must be issued by an Alberta Advanced Education publicly funded post-secondary institution.

Eligible Work Experience: At the time of application submission, applicants must have either:

• A minimum of 12 months of full-time work experience in their current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or
• A minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in their current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or a combination of both—experience can be accrued in Alberta, Canada (outside Alberta), or abroad. PGWP holders require at least 6 months of full-time work experience in their current Alberta occupation within the last 18 months.

Alberta Express Entry Stream: Aligned with the federal Express Entry system, this stream nominates candidates meeting eligibility criteria and possessing a valid job offer or work experience in Alberta. Candidates demonstrating strong ties to Alberta or supporting the government’s economic development and diversification objectives may be selected. Expedited processing may be available for candidates employed by or holding a job offer from an Alberta-based tech industry employer in an eligible tech occupation.

Note: Candidates cannot directly apply to the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Rural Renewal Stream: This initiative supports employers in rural Alberta by attracting and retaining newcomers, addressing labor shortages, and facilitating permanent settlement in rural communities. These communities must have a population of less than 100,000 and be situated outside the Calgary and Edmonton regions. How to Apply for AAIP

The AAIP application process involves several key steps:

3. Gather Documents: Collect all necessary documents for the AAIP application, including language test results, educational credentials, work experience documentation, and proof of settlement funds.
4. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI): For the Strategic Recruitment Stream and the Alberta Express Entry Stream, submit an EOI to the Alberta government. This allows the government to evaluate eligibility and extend invitations to apply for AAIP.
5. Apply for AAIP: Upon receiving an invitation to apply, submit the AAIP application, including all required documents like the LMIA, language test results, and educational credentials.
